In 2019, a cloud fell over the marijuana industry that had nothing to do with their product being smoked. This cloud came in the form of people suddenly becoming ill with serious, life threatening lung diseases. Officials were left scratching their heads trying to figure out what was going on. Eventually they came to the conclusion that it had something to do with vaping, but they were having a hard time figuring out the exact cause. This confusion resulted in a ban on flavored nicotine vaping cartridges and considerably more scrutiny and regulations being placed on the industry.
Navigating the Aftermath
Although the cause of the outbreak has been determined, the legislation passed as the result of it is still in place, even if it seeks to dismantle aspects of the industry that have nothing to do with what happened. The disinformation surrounding this phenomenon has done considerable damage to vaping businesses who were trying to do things the right way. Potential customers were scared away and sales dropped both as a result of the restrictions that were put into place. None of this would have happened if everyone waited to determine the actual cause of the problems rather than speculating about what was going on.
Ensuring it Won’t Happen Again
When someone makes the decision to start vaping, they do so at the expense of their health. This risk needs to be a calculated one with considerable attention being paid to the products that are consumed. Stepping foot into this world might also come with the temptation to cut corners in order to acquire the types and amounts of product that’s needed. This temptation needs to be avoided because it increases the risk of substandard products being acquired. Companies that are willing to skip steps do not care about the well being of their customers. They want nothing more than for their product to get into people’s hands and money getting into their wallets.
Finding the Real Perpetrators
Rather than going for the path of least resistance and picking companies that might be off the beaten path, vaping customers must choose businesses that are doing things the right way. Businesses that are on the wrong side of the law offer something that seems to be good to be true. In reality, the goods that they are selling are false and their ability to sell these products has to be eliminated. Tainted products have been seized and the phenomenon of people falling ill from vaping has dissipated. This doesn’t mean that it’s going to go away forever. The sketchy characters who caused the problems in the first place will retool and start up again or new characters will rise to the forefront.
Investing in the Industry
Vaping has a reputation that’s not going to get better anytime soon. Instead of shutting the door and making it identical to the tobacco industry, outside entities could invest in vaping to allow for innovation. With the help of this investment, mistakes of the past would not be repeated.
